Paint Quality and Colour Preferences
The quality of paint you choose will impact the overall cost of the job. Name brands may cost more upfront than less known options, but they’ll also last longer and can be applied in fewer coats. As a general rule of thumb, the cheaper the paint, the more coats needed to achieve even coverage.
Colour matters as well. Highly saturated colours draw a lot more attention which means extra care has to be put into surface preparation to ensure minor imperfections don’t become glaring eyesores. The same goes for higher sheen paints like satin or semi-gloss, which we always recommend for areas with higher humidity like bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

Condo Painting Cost Factors
There’s a lot to consider when pricing Toronto condo painting jobs. The overall size of your home, the number of rooms you want painted, and the type of paint being used are some of the most important, but many other factors will influence pricing as well. That includes:
1. What’s currently on the wall?
Cheap and porous builder’s paint, for example, will require primer and additional coats of paint to cover, as will bolder colours like reds and oranges. If the existing paint has a high sheen, we’ll also need to sand the walls down first.
2. Are there architectural features?
If you’ve got exposed beams or unusual angles to your walls and ceilings, we’ll have to spend more time prepping the workspace to ensure these features remain flawless. Depending on the height of your walls, we may also have to bring in tall ladders to paint hard-to-reach areas, which requires additional time.
3. What about closets and shelving systems?
Both require more preparation (taping and masking) and more fine detail work, increasing the time it takes to complete the job and therefore the cost.
4. How many colours are you using?
The more colours we’re using, the more difficult the job, as we have to prep more tools and potentially apply additional coats on some walls, depending on the colours you choose. We typically end up with more leftover paint or stain as well, which still has to be paid for.
Additional factors that affect pricing include:
- Painting textured ceilings like stucco or popcorn
- Wallpaper removal
- Extensive repairs
- Speciality paints and finishes
